{"id":13892,"date":"2025-10-15T08:57:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T08:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cac-cl.pt\/?p=13892"},"modified":"2025-10-15T08:58:54","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T08:58:54","slug":"ucp-reinforces-its-commitment-to-the-mental-health-and-wellbeing-of-the-academic-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cac-cl.pt\/pt\/ucp-reinforces-its-commitment-to-the-mental-health-and-wellbeing-of-the-academic-community\/","title":{"rendered":"UCP reinforces its commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of the academic community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the Porto campus of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucp.pt\/pt-pt\/homepage\">Universidade Cat\u00f3lica Portugues<\/a>a, students, lecturers, specialists, members of the Rector&#8217;s Team, directors of academic units and partners gathered at the meeting\u00a0<strong><em>&#8220;UCP2 Mental Health: what is changing in mental health and well-being at the Universidade Cat\u00f3lica?&#8221;.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the motto\u00a0&#8220;What can we do now?&#8221;,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fch.lisboa.ucp.pt\/pt-pt\/pessoa\/margarida-gaspar-de-matos\">Margarida Gaspar de Matos<\/a>, professor at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fch.lisboa.ucp.pt\/\">Faculty of Human Sciences,<\/a> emphasised that caring for mental health means preventing, promoting and acting as a community. In her presentation, she made concrete recommendations &#8211; from creating healthier ecosystems to investing in social and emotional skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ensuing conversation brought three student leaders to the stage:&nbsp;Carolina Mano&nbsp;(FCH-UCP Lisbon),&nbsp;In\u00eas Reis&nbsp;(FEP-UCP Porto) and&nbsp;Afonso Oliveira&nbsp;(FD-UCP Porto). Each shared their experiences and concerns, showing that talking about mental health is, above all, about giving space to the real challenges faced by students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the&nbsp;UCP Students\u2019 Voices panel,&nbsp;Matilde Marques&nbsp;(FEP-UCP Porto) and&nbsp;Leonor Esteves&nbsp;(IGOS-UCP Viseu) emphasised that \u201cstudents are not just recipients, but an active part in building solutions\u201d, demonstrating the importance of involving students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the meeting, new&nbsp;initiatives to promote mental health and well-being&nbsp;were also presented, to be implemented this semester:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucp.pt\/educationsupport-servicesucp2-mental-health\/learn-develop-skills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Workshops on Mental Health Literacy and Psychological First Aid<\/a>, addressing topics such as academic anxiety, positive body image, panic attacks, and academic burnout;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucp.pt\/educationsupport-servicesucp2-mental-healthlearn-develop-skills\/soft-skills-development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UCP2 Be<\/a>, a soft skills development programme for first-year students, currently in its pilot phase in Porto and Lisbon;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucp.pt\/educationsupport-servicesucp2-mental-healthlearn-develop-skills\/course-pro-stress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pro-Stress Course<\/a>, with 45 hours dedicated to academic stress management;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucp.pt\/educationsupport-servicesucp2-mental-healthlearn-ucp2-mental-health\/ucp-students-voices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UCP Students&#8217; Voices<\/a>, an advisory panel that ensures the constant presence of student perspectives in the definition of institutional strategies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting ended with the&nbsp;signing of protocols&nbsp;with&nbsp;Santa Casa da Miseric\u00f3rdia do Porto,&nbsp;Casa de Sa\u00fade da Boavista, and&nbsp;Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Recovery IPSS, strengthening the network of partners associated with Universidade Cat\u00f3lica to promote students&#8217; mental health.
