{"id":14513,"date":"2026-02-09T10:10:47","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cac-cl.pt\/?p=14513"},"modified":"2026-02-09T10:10:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:10:48","slug":"catolica-medical-school-research-receives-spedm-2025-research-project-grant-and-best-basic-science-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cac-cl.pt\/pt\/catolica-medical-school-research-receives-spedm-2025-research-project-grant-and-best-basic-science-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Cat\u00f3lica Medical School Research Receives SPEDM 2025 Research Project Grant and Best Basic Science Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research conducted at the Laboratory of Molecular Endocrinology and Signalling of the<a href=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/catolica-medical-school\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/catolica-medical-school\"> <strong>Cat\u00f3lica Medical School (CMS)<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucp.pt\/homepage\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.ucp.pt\/homepage\"><strong>Universidade Cat\u00f3lica Portuguesa<\/strong><\/a>, has recently received two major national scientific distinctions in the field of endocrinology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0SPEDM Research Project Grant \u2013 2025\u00a0was awarded to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/person\/ana-luisa-silva\"><strong>Assistant Professor Ana Lu\u00edsa Silva<\/strong><\/a>, from <a href=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/catolica-medical-school\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/catolica-medical-school\"><strong>Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Cat\u00f3lica<\/strong><\/a>, for the project \u201c<em>The role of tumour microenvironment in the biological behaviour and outcomes of pituitary adenomas: new immune-related biomarkers and therapeutical targets\u201d.<\/em> The project is being developed in collaboration with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/person\/pedro-marques\"><strong>Invited Assistant Professor Pedro Marques<\/strong><\/a>, also from CMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This competitive funding will strengthen ongoing research lines focused on the study of the tumour microenvironment in pituitary adenomas, with particular emphasis on the identification of novel immune-related biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets associated with tumour aggressiveness and resistance to conventional treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the study entitled\u00a0<em>\u201cChemokines and chemokine receptors in pituitary neuroendocrine tumors: an exploratory transcriptomic study in a large cohort\u201d<\/em>,\u00a0<strong>presented as an oral communication by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/pt-pt\/pessoa\/pedro-marques\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/pt-pt\/pessoa\/pedro-marques\">Professor Pedro Marques<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0at the Portuguese Congress of Endocrinology, received the\u00a0<strong>Best Paper Award in the Basic Science Category<\/strong>. The work stood out for its innovative approach to the transcriptomic characterisation of chemokines and their receptors in pituitary neuroendocrine tumours (PitNETs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/pt-pt\/pessoa\/ana-luisa-silva\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/fm.ucp.pt\/pt-pt\/pessoa\/ana-luisa-silva\">Ana Lu\u00edsa Silva<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>leads the\u00a0<strong><em>Laboratory of Molecular Endocrinology and Signalling<\/em><\/strong>, which is integrated into the Cat\u00f3licaMed Platform of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ciis.ucp.pt\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/ciis.ucp.pt\/\"><strong>Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Health (CIIS-UCP). <\/strong><\/a>The laboratory is dedicated to understanding the molecular pathways that regulate endocrine tumours, with a particular focus on thyroid and pituitary tumours, aiming to develop new therapeutic strategies and personalised medicine approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research lines related to pituitary tumours are coordinated by Professor Pedro Marques, whose scientific activity focuses on the molecular determinants of tumour invasiveness, therapeutic resistance, and the identification of biomarkers associated with clinically aggressive pituitary adenomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>These distinctions reflect the scientific excellence, translational relevance, and impact of the research carried out at Cat\u00f3lica Medical School, reinforcing its position as a leading institution in the field of molecular endocrinology and oncobiology.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Research conducted at the Laboratory of Molecular Endocrinology and Signalling of the Cat\u00f3lica Medical School (CMS) &#8211; Universidade Cat\u00f3lica Portuguesa, has recently received two major national scientific distinctions in the field of endocrinology.
