From January 12th to 16th, 2026, Universidad Loyola (Seville, Spain) hosted an international intensive program focused on the innovative teaching methodology of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) tailored to health sciences education. Supported by the Erasmus+ framework, this initiative brought together faculty from higher education institutions across Europe and beyond to explore active, student-centered pedagogies and collaborative problem-solving approaches.
The week-long program offered comprehensive training on key aspects of PBL implementation, including its theoretical foundations, the design of educational problems, facilitation techniques, evaluation strategies, and practical planning for integration into university curricula.
Representing the Católica Medical School, Professors António de Almeida, Paulo Oom, Pedro Mateus, Sofia Menéres, Bruno Cardoso e Maria da Cunha, participated actively in the sessions, contributing with insights from the Portuguese context and reinforcing the school’s commitment to educational innovation in health sciences.
Structured modules guided participants through themed topics ranging from problem design to interprofessional learning dynamics, facilitating an exchange of best practices and fostering collaborative networks among educators from various countries.
This international gathering provided a valuable platform for strengthening academic partnerships and advancing pedagogical strategies that cultivate critical thinking, reflective practice, and teamwork -competencies essential for future health professionals.
