World Health Organization predicts an increase of 75% in the number of cancer cases worldwide. This reality relates to the improvement of early diagnostic methods, as well as to other diverse factors, namely nutritional and related to life-styles. A main concern in cancer patients that may ultimately alter prognosis, are nutritional status and diet intake.
For this reason, the present Postgraduate Program in Nutrition and Metabolism in Cancer was designed for a variety of professional and academic profiles, offering a wide range of relevant themes and new strategies in this domain. It is shaped for health professionals that play a role in all treatment stages of cancer patients, allowing them to develop skills for the prevention and resolution of nutritional problems inherent to both patient and healthy populations.
Uma formação que inclui a temática da população de doentes em meio hospitalar, mas também em ambulatório e a nível dos cuidados de saúde primários. Integra também temas como a nutrição artificial com o uso de fórmulas pré-concebidos para uso per os, para nutrição artificial por via entérica e parentérica, investigação clínica e desenhos de estudo de investigação.
O programa incluirá disciplinas referentes a pacientes hospitalizados e de ambulatório, bem como direccionados ao ambiente dos cuidados de sa+ude primários. Integrará também temas como dietas terapêuticas orais, nutrição artificial (entérica e parentérica), investigação clínica e translacional e concepção e construção de projectos de investigação.
This international Postgraduate Program will also have the collaboration of 2 more Universities and Research Units: a Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Research Unit dedicated to nutrition and metabolism NutricLab, Greece, and HAN University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands.
This Postgraduate Program has 30 ECTS with 190 contact hours.
The Postgraduate Program in Nutrition and Metabolism in Cancer, which starts on October 17th, 2025, is divided into 16 modules; classes are held monthly, bi-monthly or three-monthly during after-work hours (Fridays from 5pm to 8pm and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm) for one academic year.
A plataforma Postgraduate Program in Nutrition and Metabolism in Cancer adopts a hybrid teaching format, with in person classroom classes and online sessions, with the possibility of students outside Portugal being able to attend classes online.
