On June 14th, World Blood Donor Day was celebrated globally to honor and thank all voluntary blood donors who help save lives every day.

Professor António Medina de Almeida, Hematologist, Dean of Católica Medical School, and President of the Católica Luz Clinical Academic Centre (CAC-CL), participated in a special segment on CNN Portugal. During the interview, he emphasized the vital role of blood donation in healthcare systems and its life-saving impact in situations such as emergency care, surgeries, and chronic disease management.

World Blood Donor Day serves as a reminder of the urgent need for safe blood and blood products. Professor Medina de Almeida called attention to the fact that blood donation is a generous act that cannot be replaced by technology and remains essential to modern medicine. He also urged the public, especially young adults, to consider regular blood donations as a civic duty and expression of solidarity.

At CAC-CL, our mission goes beyond clinical research and innovation. We are committed to supporting health literacy campaigns that raise awareness about public health issues such as the importance of blood donation. Through events like World Blood Donor Day, we hope to inspire a new generation of healthcare professionals and citizens to engage with health challenges in a human-centered way.
