The Portuguese dentist Susana Falardo, a recognised specialist in Sleep Medicine, was recently honoured with the 2025 Pierre Robin International Award by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.
With over 12 years of experience in this field, Falardo has made significant contributions to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, especially in the dental approach to conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea.
She currently serves as Co-Coordinator of the Postgraduate Programme in Sleep Medicine at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Católica, where she leads educational initiatives and promotes a multidisciplinary approach to sleep healthcare.
According to Susana Falardo, “Dentists also play an important role in Sleep Medicine.” She highlights the essential contribution of dental professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders, supporting a truly multidisciplinary approach to healthcare.

The Pierre Robin International Award is named after the French physician who contributed significantly to understanding craniofacial anomalies. The award is given annually to individuals who demonstrate innovation and leadership in Dental Sleep Medicine at an international level.
