According to Stanford University, the number of researchers from Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) recognized in the global ranking of the most cited scientists has increased by 40% compared to the previous year. There are now 14 researchers honored in the 2025 edition of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list – compiled by Stanford University (USA) in collaboration with the Elsevier publishing group.

According to Isabel Capeloa Gil, Rector of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, “This result is an international recognition of the quality and relevance of the research conducted at Universidade Católica Portuguesa. It is a source of pride to see our researchers among the world’s top scientists, contributing to innovation and advancing their fields of expertise.”

In the Health field, special mention goes to Professor Paula Ravasco (Nutrition and Dietetics) from Católica Medical School and Júlio C. M. Souza (Biomedical Engineering) from the Faculty of Dental Medicine, both researchers at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Health (CIIS).

In addition to this annual recognition, Professor Paula Ravasco was also distinguished for the impact of her scientific production throughout her career.

The “World’s Top 2% Scientists List” includes over 100,000 scientists worldwide, from 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields. The ranking highlights researchers whose published work has most contributed to scientific progress and generated significant impact within the academic community.
