On May 13th, the Medical Education Day took place at Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Católica, an event dedicated to sharing pedagogical practices, innovative teaching and learning methodologies, and both national and international experiences in the field of medical education.

Organized by Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Católica and the Católica Luz Clinical Academic Centre, the event welcomed renowned national and international speakers in medical education, creating a day filled with reflection and knowledge exchange.

The Opening Session featured remarks by José Manuel Pereira de Almeida, Vice-Rector of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, António Medina de Almeida, Dean of Católica Medical School (CMS) and Pedro Mateus, Head of the Department of Medical Education of Católica Medical School.

The day’s first session was led by Yoon Soo Park, who introduced key approaches to educational data analysis, highlighting major trends in the United States.

In the second session, Maria Amélia Ferreira explored the current shifts and uncertainties in medical education, emphasizing the evolving narrative within today’s educational landscape.

The program continued with the first roundtable, hosted by the CMS Department of Medical Education, featuring Sofia Menéres, Frederico Simões do Couto, and Teresa Nazareth, who shared an internal perspective on the development and implementation of a problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum.

After this session, speakers and participants gathered for a lunch break.

The afternoon resumed with the fourth session, presented by Maria José Diógenes, who shared the experience of Lisbon Medical School in promoting a more human-centered and innovative approach to medical education, focusing on the role of Pedagogical Councils and medical education departments.

The second roundtable featured Católica Medical School students, Frederico Saragga, Joana Martins, Martim Oliveira, and Sam Izadloo who shared their experiences with scientific research during medical training. Their testimonies emphasized the vital role of student-centered initiatives in shaping future medical professionals.

The final session welcomed Ara Tekian, who offered a global perspective on Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE) programs, comparing international models and career paths in health education.

The event concluded with closing remarks by António Medina de Almeida, Diretor of CMS, who thanked all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions. The day ended with a networking cocktail, providing an opportunity for attendees to exchange ideas and spark new collaborations.
