The Instituto de Bioética of Universidade Católica Portuguesa is pleased to promote the international training event “Teaming on Self-Evaluation in Research Assessment Across Scales: from Researchers to Institutions”, organized within the framework of the CoARA Boost Project – SE4RRA Programme, in collaboration with:
- TOBB University of Economics and Technology
- Research Data Alliance Association AISBL
This initiative is funded by the European Commission and endorsed within the framework of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development, reinforcing the importance of responsible, ethical, and socially impactful research cultures aligned with sustainable development and knowledge for the common good.
The program will bring together researchers, academics, ethics and integrity experts, policymakers, research managers, and members of ethics committees to reflect on key challenges shaping the future of research and higher education, including:
- Responsible research assessment
- Research integrity and ethics
- Institutional self-evaluation
- Research governance and public trust in science
- Future challenges in higher education and scientific governance
A Special Highlight of the program
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM | International Hybrid Discussion on Self-Evaluation in Research Assessment, Led by Research Data Alliance Association AISBL
This international hybrid session will be exceptionally open to the broader academic and scientific community, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and international exchange on the future of responsible research assessment, institutional governance, and the societal role of science.
At a time of profound transformation of the European and global research ecosystem, institutions are increasingly called upon to align scientific excellence with integrity, transparency, societal responsibility, and meaningful impact. Responsible research assessment therefore emerges not merely as a technical or administrative process, but as a strategic pathway to strengthen institutional trust, foster collaborative and reflective research cultures, and promote meaningful, trustworthy, and socially impactful science.
As Mara de Sousa Freitas states:
“Responsible research assessment is not only about measuring science, but about shaping the kind of scientific culture and societal impact we wish to foster, placing knowledge at the service of the common good.”
This event seeks to contribute to this international reflection by creating a space for interdisciplinary dialogue, institutional learning, and shared engagement on the future of research governance, self-evaluation, and responsible research cultures.
Participation is open to the academic and scientific community of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, as well as to external participants.
