nutrition and metabolism in oncology

World Health Organization predicts an increase of 75% in the number of cancer cases worldwide. This reality relates to the improvement of early diagnostic methods, as well as to other diverse factors, namely nutritional and related to life-styles. A main concern in cancer patients that may ultimately alter prognosis, are nutritional status and diet intake.

For this reason, the present Postgraduate Program in Nutrition and Metabolism in Cancer was designed for a variety of professional and academic profiles, offering a wide range of relevant themes and new strategies in this domain. It is shaped for health professionals that play a role in all treatment stages of cancer patients, allowing them to develop skills for the prevention and resolution of nutritional problems inherent to both patient and healthy populations.

This training includes the subject of the patient population in hospital, but also in outpatient and primary health care settings. It also includes topics such as artificial nutrition with the use of pre-designed formulas for per os use, for artificial nutrition via the enteric and parenteral route, clinical research and research study designs.

The program will include disciplines for hospitalized and ambulatory patients, as well as for the primary care setting. It will also integrate themes such as oral therapeutic diets, artificial nutrition (enteral and parenteral), clinical and translational research and the design and construction of research projects.

This international Postgraduate Program will also have the collaboration of 2 more Universities and Research Units: a Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Research Unit dedicated to nutrition and metabolism NutricLab, Greece, and HAN University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands.

This Postgraduate Program has 30 ECTS with 190 contact hours.

The Postgraduate Program in Nutrition and Metabolism in Cancer, which starts on October 17th, 2025, is divided into 16 modules; classes are held monthly, bi-monthly or three-monthly during after-work hours (Fridays from 5pm to 8pm and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm) for one academic year.
