João Pereira, Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience and Executive Director of Católica Medical School, wrote an article in Diário de Notícias about the BSc Systems and Cognitive Neuroscience, a partnership with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing at Católica Medical School.
“The brain remains one of science’s greatest mysteries. Despite many advances and discoveries, this frontier remains as challenging as it is relevant today. July 22nd is World Brain Day, a date established to draw attention to the importance of this organ and its central role in people’s quality of life“.
“There are still too many open questions that require in-depth investigation. What’s missing isn’t just more technology, it’s integrated understanding. From biology to physics, chemistry, and physiology, to data science and image analysis, neuroscience is a vast and fertile field for those brave enough to venture into it. Neuroscientists must be able to explore the connection between the biological reality of the brain and its functions. To achieve this, we need to create algorithms that allow us to analyze large volumes of data to simulate brain functions“.

Moreover, neuroscience is a field where multiple disciplines converge. For example, it brings together biology, physics, chemistry, physiology, data science, and image analysis. As a result, it offers fertile ground for scientific discovery.
Therefore, neuroscientists must understand the link between the brain’s biological structure and its functions. To achieve this, we need advanced tools and algorithms. These systems help us process large volumes of data and simulate brain behavior. Consequently, this allows for progress in diagnosis and treatment.
In conclusion, the need for neuroscientists is more than academic. It is a public health priority. Investing in neuroscience education is essential to develop future leaders in brain research.
