Nelson Frazão wins Best Poster Award for phage therapy research at international symposium

Nelson Frazão, researcher and Assistant Professor at CAC-CL, received the Best Poster Award for Phage Therapy research at the 1st International Symposium on Advances in Phage Therapeutics, held at the University of Minho in Braga on June 16 and 17, 2025.

His award-winning research poster, titled “Pregnancy Promotes Lysogeny in Gut Bacteria, Potentially Impacting Phage Therapy”, investigates how pregnancy-induced changes in bacterial lysogens may influence the effectiveness of phage-based therapies. This innovative approach opens new perspectives in the field of phage therapy, particularly in how microbial dynamics affect treatment outcomes.

The event brought together international experts to discuss cutting-edge advancements in bacteriophage applications, antimicrobial resistance, and future therapeutic strategies. Nelson Frazão’s work was recognised for its scientific rigor, originality, and relevance to the growing challenges in personalised medicine and microbiome-based treatments.

This award not only celebrates the excellence of individual research, but also the strength of partnerships, such as those between CAC-CL, Católica Medical School, and national scientific institutions.

The Católica Luz Clinical Academic Centre (CAC-CL) is proud to celebrate this recognition and congratulates Professor Nelson Frazão for this outstanding achievement, which highlights the centre’s investment in high-impact research and academic excellence.

This recognition reflects CAC-CL’s contribution to innovative phage therapy research, reinforced by Nelson Frazão’s Best Poster Award.
